This is dip, not guacamole, so be prepared for a looser texture as you’re preparing it. I recommend mashing your avocados most of the way with salt and vinegar first, then adding the orange juice slowly, mashing with a big fork or a potato masher as you go. There might be a moment when it looks liquidy, but don’t worry: as you continue mixing, it’ll turn into a lovely dip in your bowl, and there’s no need for blending or processing to speed it along if you’re willing to use some elbow grease in your mashing. The recipe is generous, but can be halved if needed.

  1. National OJ Day has a nice ring to it. Oj has been a staple in my diet for a while now. I have never added it with Avacado dip before though. They make an interesting combination. It was fun trying this out. Thank you for sharing!

  2. I find it so interesting to hear an RD recommending orange juice. I’d love to hear a little more about the role you feel it plays in a healthy diet.

      I think OJ is a great way to add citrus flavor and sweetness (and Vitamin C) to recipes, just like this one! I use it often in marinades and dressings, and I also simmer it with frozen berries as a topping for oatmeal and toast. I’ve used it to help sweeten and flavor baking recipes, like quick breads and muffins, too.
